What is Cocaine?

What is Meth?
Methamphetamine is a potent and addictive central nervous system stimulant which acts on the brain and spinal cord. It is referred to by the street names meth, crystal meth, or speed. Meth is a white, odorless, bitter-tasting powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol. It may be smoked, snorted, injected, or taken orally.

What is Ecstasy?
Ecstasy is a synthetic, psychoactive drug that is both a stimulant and psychedelic. Street names include Adam, Molly, XTC, and Go. Ecstasy is typically manufactured in a pill or powder form and is taken orally or snorted.

What is Heroin?
Heroin is an opiate derived from morphine, which is obtained from the flowers of the poppy plant. It is a depressant that affects the brain’s pleasure systems and interferes with the ability to perceive pain.

Heroin is most often injected, however, it may also be smoked, snorted, or orally ingested. Any delivery method can result in addiction, as well as serious health problems.

All opiates, including heroin, carry a strong risk of addiction and physical dependence.

What is LSD?
LSD is an extremely potent hallucinogen manufactured from lysergic acid, which is found in ergot, a fungus that grows on rye and other grains. It is odorless, colorless, and has a slightly bitter taste. LSD is sold as small tablets, on sugar cubes, in thin squares of gelatin, on squares of blotter paper, or as a liquid,and is taken by ingestion.

LSD is referred to by a large number of street names including acid, doses, blotter, dots, and trips.

What is Marijuana?
Marijuana is a psychoactive drug derived from the hemp plant annabis Sativa. The main active chemical in marijuana is THC, which acts on specific receptors in the brain to produce the euphoria or “high” that users experience.

Marijuana typically appears as a green, brown or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, and flowers, but can also be manufactured into oil, resin, and foods.

What is PCP?
Phencyclidine (PCP) is a synthetic drug most frequently sold on the streets as tablets, capsules, liquid, or white or colored powder. It was developed in the 1950s as an anesthetic but due to the powerful side effects of confusion and delirium its medical use was discontinued.

PCP is used by swallowing, snorting, smoking, or injection. It is referred to by a number of street names including Angel Dust, Hog, Lovely, and Wack.

What are Prescription Drugs?
Abused substances are not always illegal; drug abuse can also occur with the misuse of legal prescription drugs. If you take a medicine in a way that is different from what a doctor prescribed, it is considered prescription drug abuse.
